How to de-stress this summer using your self care routine.
De-stress and make some time for yourself.
Summer is finally here (even though it may be a tiny bit colder and more rainy than we’d like) but if you’re jetting off on holiday or just taking some time to relax at home on a staycation, the summer holidays are the perfect opportunity to slow down, de-stress and take some time out just for you. Below you’ll find some of our favourite summer self care tips to help you relax and unwind.
Drink more water
It goes without saying that drinking water is good for your body and skin but also drinking water improves concentration, which in turn can help when practicing meditation or mindfulness. Both of which lead to clearer concentration which helps us make better decisions and reduces stress. Water is also the perfect way to replenish and stay hydrated, especially if you’re spending any time in the sun.
Get outside
Spending time outdoors and experiencing a change of scenery, even if it’s doing the gardening or getting outside during your lunch break, can be great for clearing your mind as you’re distanced from day to day stressors. Getting a daily dose of Vitamin D from being outdoors keeps your immune system in good shape and maintains healthy bones. Plus any outdoor activity creates endorphins - those feel good chemicals - if coupled with movement for example jogging or even going for a simple walk.
Yoga
Gentle movement such as yoga also releases endorphins which in turn creates a positive feeling and lowers stress levels. Although some types of yoga can be intense, typically it’s a relatively gentle and relaxing activity which you can take at your own pace. Whilst being good for improving strength and flexibility, yoga also allows you to solely focus on each pose, creating moments of mindfulness and in turn, reducing stress.
Pamper yourself
Sometimes there’s nothing like having a long soak in the tub to relax your muscles and unwind. By lighting a few calming scented candles around the bath and playing some relaxing music you’ll soon feel like you’re having a spa break, taking some well earned me-time. Double the de-stressing power of bathtime by practicing being thankful during that time and it’ll soon boost your mood. Taking a bath (or shower) is a simple yet effective way to de-stress as it doesn’t have to take a long time and is something you can do without even leaving the comfort of your own home.
